Senior Cyber Security Engineer
Location: Glasgow (Hybrid: 2 days in office)
Working Pattern: Full-time or part-time
Evolve’s client is looking for an experienced Senior Cyber Security Engineer to join their forward-thinking IT function. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in shaping, enhancing, and protecting the security posture of a modern, ambitious organisation that values innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
💡 About the Role
You’ll become part of a friendly and supportive Networking & Security team where you’ll help deliver strategic security projects while also guiding the organisation’s security roadmap. This role offers hands‑on technical responsibility across a wide range of modern cybersecurity tools and infrastructure, with the freedom to experiment, evaluate emerging technologies, and influence future direction.
You'll act as a trusted technical expert, helping colleagues across IT and the wider business understand best practice, respond to threats, and drive continuous improvement in line with industry standards.
🔧 What You’ll Be Doing
You’ll take ownership of key cyber security initiatives—designing, implementing, and refining solutions that strengthen the organisation’s defences. You’ll be the go‑to escalation point for complex security queries and will support ongoing project delivery through tools like Azure DevOps. You’ll help shape standards, evaluate new technologies, and work closely with vendors and partners to ensure the business remains ahead of emerging risks.
In the day‑to‑day, expect to get involved in monitoring and maintaining security infrastructure, contributing to incident response, offering expert guidance, improving automation across systems, and helping steer the organisation towards continual compliance with frameworks such as ISO27001.
You’ll also play an important part in mentoring colleagues and encouraging knowledge-sharing within the team.
🧠 What You’ll Bring
Our client is looking for someone who has a genuine enthusiasm for cyber security and enjoys working with modern tools and methodologies. You’ll likely have hands‑on experience with security infrastructure, strong communication skills, and confidence explaining technical concepts in a clear, pragmatic way. An interest in Agile/Scrum ways of working and experience with Microsoft technologies will be especially valuable.
A degree in IT or equivalent practical experience is welcome, and certifications such as Microsoft Security, CEH, Security+, OSCP, or Checkpoint are a bonus, but not a requirement.
🛠️ Technologies You’ll Work With
You’ll get exposure to a modern security tech stack including:
- Microsoft 365 Defender (including Defender for Cloud)
- Vulnerability and web application protection tools
- DLP technologies
- Cloudflare
- Firewalls, secure remote access solutions and VPN
- PKI, DNS, and secure email gateways
- Security audits, ISO27001 and Cyber Essentials frameworks
You may also work with Azure DevOps, MITRE ATT&CK, scripting (PowerShell, Python, Azure CLI, YAML), Microsoft operating systems, and Exchange Online.
Don’t worry if you don’t tick every box—our client values the right mindset just as much as experience.
🎁 What You’ll Get in Return
Evolve’s client offers a truly supportive environment where learning and career development are taken seriously. You’ll benefit from:
- A competitive salary £55,000-£60,000 + bonus and Pension up to 7.5%
- A flexible benefits package tailored to your lifestyle
- Hybrid working with modern office space and a strong sense of community
- Mentoring, access to an award-winning learning platform, and support for professional growth
- Volunteering days, birthday leave, and regular social activities
- A commitment to wellbeing through on-site support and thoughtful work-life balance policies
- Flexibility to work between 7am and 7pm
