Security Operations Analyst - Edinburgh

Information Security
Ref: 77 Date Posted: Wednesday 01 Jul 2020

Our client has recently established a new Cyber Security Team. They invest heavily in technology in general and also do a lot of personal and career development with their employees. So if you are looking for a role where you will have access to the latest tech stack, loads of training and opportunity to learn and build on your Cyber Security career, then this is definitely a role to consider.

They are looking to fill 2 positions, as they look to expand their external offering to encompass cyber security and protect their organisation against existing security risks and implementing new measures to stay well ahead of any future threats.

Working as part of a small team these roles will play a vital part in shaping how cyber security is viewed internally within the business. You’ll be expected to analyse security events and solve problems using your own initiative, as this role is largely operational. There will also be project work along the way, but you’ll need to be ready to get stuck in to a challenging range of operational tasks. There will also be plenty of opportunity to learn in this position and it’s fully expected that this will form part of the role.

A sample of responsibilities will include:

  • Monitor Splunk SIEM and provide initial logs and raise any security events
  • Supporting the security tools, including firewalls, honeypots and Antivirus
  • Development and growth of the cyber security offering
  • Managing client relationships and developing the brand of this team through the business
  • Given this is a highly varied role we are looking for an individual with both the technical abilities as well as the personality to work in a dynamic and fast paced position
  • Ideally you’ll also have one or more tech certification (e.g Splunk, RHCSA, MSCE, CCNA or Security certifications such as CEH, CISSP, OSCP)

The successful Security Analyst will have the following technical skills and experience:

  • Educational qualifications/certifications in IT and Information Security or equivalent commercial experience
  • Experience of SIEM tools, ideally Splunk
  • Scripting experience with Powershell, Bash, Python or similar languages
  • Knowledge and experience of managing client relationships
  • 1st class communication and presentation abilities
  • Experience in technology systems within accounting and finance would be beneficial

In return my client are offering a highly competitive salary of £35,000 - £45,000 per annum plus an outstanding benefits package that includes up to 25% annual bonus (Paid at 20%+ 4 years running), 15% pension contribution, BUPA and much more. They also have a collaborative and friendly working environment where training and personal development are actively encouraged.

If this sounds like the next step for you into cyber security then please do get in touch.
