In this role you will lead a delivery stream-aligned Devops team, providing the technical platform and leadership required to ensure that appropriate (and modern) Devops tools are used to support the software development teams in their delivery of apps (both greenfield and legacy), this will include CI/CD, pipelines, containerisation, and automated testing. This is a strategic, mainly hands-off leadership role (c. 20% hands-on) where you will set the standards for CI/CD, cloud, and containerisation, working closely with Delivery Managers, the Design Authority, and Platform teams to ensure every project delivered is robust and highly scalable.
You will have the opportunity to influence technical direction from the earliest planning stages, building risk matrices and Devops maturity measurements, embedding automated testing across all projects, and ensuring all systems are evergreen. Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage a team of engineers and graduates, ensuring clear delegation, training, and development.
- Collaborate with Developer Community, Architecture, Platform Engineering, and other delivery streams to embed and evolve standards.
- Assess and improve DevOps maturity across multiple workstreams, working closely with Delivery Managers.
- Set and maintain standards for CI/CD, automated testing, and pipeline building.
- Ensure all technology remains evergreen, robust, and aligned with organisational strategy.
- Oversee technical lifecycle management, risk assessment, and planning for both legacy and new applications.
- Support the adoption of reference architecture and design authority processes for all new projects.
Essential:
- Experience of working in a Devops role that is heavily aligned to the software development environment and working on development tooling or toolkits
- Extensive knowledge of CI/CD and building pipelines
- Kubernetes experience (Docker, Rancher, OpenShift)
- Cloud experience (Azure or AWS)
- Azure DevOps experience
- Application security
