Oracle DBA – Contract – Edinburgh / Hybrid (Inside IR35)
Evolve IT is working with a high-profile organisation that’s modernising its core infrastructure and moving forward with a number of cloud-based transformation initiatives. As part of this evolution, they are looking for a skilled Oracle DBA to join their Database Platforms team on a contract basis, supporting a blend of on-premise and cloud-based environments from their Edinburgh offices (hybrid working available).
As an experienced Oracle DBA, you’ll join a collaborative and technically strong team supporting business-critical production systems and internal development environments. These databases are hosted on Exadata on-premise with hybrid physical standby in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), and you'll be involved in both operational support and strategic project delivery.
Your day-to-day will include:
- Administering and tuning large, highly available multi-terabyte Oracle databases
- Participating in patching cycles and ensuring ongoing security compliance
- Supporting the move to Cloud (OCI, Azure) and contributing to automation and deployment
- Working with tooling such as RMAN, Data Guard, and OEM
- Collaborating on the onboarding of new projects and supporting internal developers
- Participating in an on-call rota and out-of-hours work where required
You’re an Oracle specialist who’s comfortable balancing hands-on operational tasks with forward-looking project work. You take pride in maintaining high availability environments, and you're eager to contribute to innovation through cloud and automation initiatives.
You’ll bring:
- Over 5 years of experience supporting Oracle databases (Oracle 19c/23ai)
- Strong SQL and PL/SQL performance tuning skills
- Hands-on knowledge of RMAN, Data Guard, and Linux administration (OEL or RHEL)
- Solid patching and upgrade experience
- Experience in Cloud (OCI or Azure) – or an eagerness to build it
- Bonus points for knowledge of: Exadata, RAC, ZFS, Delphix, APEX, or Git/Azure DevOps pipelines
You are:
- A collaborative team player, but comfortable working independently
- Proactive, reliable, and confident under pressure
- Curious about new tools and technologies with a growth mindset
- 6-month contract, with likely extensions for the right skills and personal attributes.
- Inside IR35 contract
- Hybrid working (Edinburgh-based team and the expectation is to be in the office more often than not)
- Work within a high-performing team on real-time cloud projects
- Modern office space with strong transport links and collaborative culture
If this role aligns with your experience and you're ready to contribute to a forward-thinking and collaborative team, we want to hear from you.
