M365 Engineer
Location: Edinburgh (Hybrid/Flexible Working)
Organisation: George Watson’s College
Recruitment Partner: Evolve IT Recruitment Ltd
Are you passionate about shaping the future of digital collaboration in education? Evolve is delighted to be working exclusively with George Watson’s College to recruit a talented M365 Engineer who will play a pivotal role in the school’s digital transformation journey.
About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced M365 Engineer to lead and deliver a major migration project, moving the College from Google Workspace to Microsoft 365. You’ll be at the heart of designing, configuring, and optimising the M365 environment, ensuring a secure, efficient, and collaborative digital workplace for staff and pupils alike. Working closely with colleagues across the College, you’ll manage the migration of email, file storage, calendars, and collaboration tools, while proactively identifying and resolving technical challenges along the way.
You’ll develop and maintain migration documentation, runbooks, and training materials, ensuring knowledge is shared and best practices are embedded throughout the project. As a technical escalation point, you’ll provide expert guidance and troubleshooting for complex M365 issues, supporting both end-users and the IT team. Your expertise will ensure that the College’s digital environment is robust, secure, and aligned with the latest industry standards.
Collaboration is key in this role. You’ll work with stakeholders at all levels, advising on modern workplace best practices and ensuring solutions align with the school’s strategy and goals. You’ll also stay ahead of the curve by keeping up to date with Microsoft 365 trends, recommending improvements, and maintaining relevant certifications.
What We’re Looking For
We’re seeking a candidate with proven experience in leading and supporting mid-to-large scale IT projects, particularly cloud migrations in complex environments. You’ll have a strong knowledge of Microsoft 365 services—including Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, Intune, and Azure Active Directory—and be comfortable configuring, optimising, and managing these platforms. A degree in a related subject and Microsoft certification (Associate level or greater) are essential.
You’ll bring excellent planning, organisational, and communication skills, with the ability to remain calm under pressure and adapt to changing priorities. Your troubleshooting skills will be second to none, and you’ll have a pragmatic approach to problem-solving, always seeking long-term, viable solutions. Experience with PowerShell, third-party migration tools (such as AvePoint Fly), and project management certifications (PRINCE2 or Agile) would be a bonus.
